Our Favorite Sedona Hikes

If you want to enjoy picturesque views of Sedona’s towering red rock formations, witness stunning sunsets atop a mountain or meditate at one of Sedona’s famous Vortex sites, then a hike is a must-do activity while visiting. There are over 100 hiking trails to explore! We’ve selected our top hiking trails for every skill level. You’re sure to enjoy beautiful scenery in some of the most magnificent spots on earth.

Hikes in Sedona - Airport Mesa

Airport Mesa Trail

Skill Level: Moderate
Elevation Gain: 314 feet
Distance: 3.5-mile loop (one-way or roundtrip)
Location: 7.6 miles from Enchantment Resort

The Airport Mesa Trail offers one of the most expansive views of Sedona. Heading toward the trailhead, you’ll see the Mini-Mesa which is one of the most accessible Sedona Vortex sites. This Sedona vortex is an area known to enhance prayer, meditation, mind/body self-healing, stress reduction and creative thinking.

Hiking Trails in Sedona - Boynton Canyon

Boynton Canyon

Skill Level: Moderate
Elevation Gain: 400 feet
Distance: 2.4 miles one-way
Location: .4 miles from Enchantment Resort

Ancient Indian ruins and burial sites are hidden within the splendor of the Boynton Canyon. Boynton Canyon is a sacred canyon and origin place to the Yavapai-Apache, Hopi and Navajo as well as other tribes. The Boynton Canyon Trail is an easy walk from the Enchantment Resort and is a perfect trek for all skill levels and easy trail to navigate. The Boynton Canyon trail levels in the center of the canyon and is partially shaded by juniper, oak, cypress and pinyon. This hike is perfect for the summer months as it can cool 10-15 degrees back in the canyon.

Brins Mesa

Skill Level: Moderate
Elevation Gain: 600 feet
Distance: 3.2 miles one way
Location: 5.4 miles from Enchantment Resort

Brins Mesa features an easy one-mile hike along the floor of Mormon Canyon, a moderate hike up to the top of Brins Mesa or a .75-mile hike on top of the Brins Mesa that reaches to the Soldier’s Pass Trailhead. Most prefer to hike the 1.5 miles up to the Jordan Road trailhead to the spectacular views of the Mesa Rim. If you are more adventurous, hike up another 250 feet elevation at the Mesa Rim and enjoy the breathtaking views.

Hikes in Sedona - Cathedral Rock

Cathedral Rock

Skill Level: Difficult
Elevation Gain: 600 feet
Distance: 1.7 miles one way
Location: 12.2 miles from Enchantment Resort

Cathedral Rock is one of the most romantic and photographed formations in Sedona. The majesty of the Cathedral matched with the spectacular views of Oak Creek make this vigorous hike memorable, challenging and well worth it. After you have hiked .25 miles, the trail will emerge to a ledge with breathtaking views of Courthouse Butte Vista.

Hikes in Sedona - Fay Canyon

Fay Canyon

Skill Level: Easy
Elevation Gain: 95 feet
Distance: 1.2 miles one way
Permit: Not Required
High Clearance Vehicles to Hiking Trail: Not Required
Location: 1.1 miles from Enchantment Resort

The one-mile hike leads into the canyon and ends at a naturally formed arch. If you are a little more adventurous, you can hike up a steep 100-foot climb to enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding area. The Fay Canyon trail runs along Bear Mountain and provides sites of Native American ruins as well.

Soldier’s Pass

Skill Level: Moderate
Elevation Gain: 450 feet
Distance: 2.4 miles one way
Permit: Required
Location: 8.4 miles from Enchantment Resort

The Soldier’s Pass trail offers a diverse hike that starts of in an urban setting leading you into the Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness. You’ll cross a wash and then climb out to Devil’s Kitchen sinkhole. The Soldier’s Pass trail goes through level ground to the “Seven Sacred Pools”. Don’t miss the sinkhole which was reported as a major collapse event in the 1880’s and then again in 1989.
